Examination Structure
The MBA program at GCM follows the semester system as prescribed by BPUT. The two-year full-time MBA program is divided into four semesters. Each semester comprises internal assessments and end-semester university examinations.
| Semester | Duration | Type | Internal Marks | External (BPUT) | Total Marks |

| 1st Semester | July – November | Regular | 30 Marks | 70 Marks | 100 Marks |

| Component | Marks |
|---|---|
| Mid-Semester Test (MST) | 15 |
| Assignments / Case Studies | 5 |
| Seminar / Presentation | 5 |
| Attendance & Class Participation | 5 |
| Total Internal Marks | 30 |
| Activity | When |
|---|---|
| Mid-Semester Test (MST) | Week 6–7 of Semester |
| Assignment Submission | Week 4 & Week 10 |
| Seminar / Presentation | Week 8–10 |
| Attendance Calculation | End of Semester |
| Internal Marks Submission | Before BPUT Exam |
Important: Internal Marks are Final
Internal assessment marks, once submitted to BPUT, cannot be revised. Students are advised to maintain consistent performance in all internal components throughout the semester.
Attendance Rules
Minimum 75% Attendance is Mandatory
As per BPUT regulations, a student must have a minimum of 75% attendance in each subject to be eligible to appear in the End-Semester Examination. Students with attendance below 75% will be debarred from appearing in the university examination.
Attendance Calculation Method
Attendance is calculated separately for each subject/paper. The percentage is computed as:
Attendance % = (Classes Attended ÷ Total Classes Conducted) × 100
- Attendance is tracked for theory, practical, and tutorial classes separately.
- Medical leave or other approved leave does not automatically grant attendance.
- Attendance register is maintained by each faculty member and verified by the examination cell.
Condonation of Attendance
- Students with attendance between 65% – 74% may apply for condonation on medical or other genuine grounds.
- Condonation application must be submitted to the Principal within the stipulated date with supporting documents.
- Condonation is granted at the discretion of the Principal / BPUT — it is not a right.
- Students below 65% attendance are not eligible for condonation under any circumstances.
Consequences of Low Attendance
- Debarment from End-Semester Examination in the concerned subject(s).
- The student will be treated as absent and will receive zero marks for that paper.
- The student may have to repeat the semester/year as a back student.
- Scholarship eligibility and hostel facilities may be affected.
End-Semester Examination (70 Marks)
The End-Semester Examination is conducted by Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) and carries 70 marks for each theory paper. GCM acts as an examination centre as per BPUT norms.
Examination Pattern
- Duration of each paper: 3 Hours
- Maximum marks: 70 marks per paper
- Questions include objective, short-answer, and long-answer type questions.
- Question papers are set and moderated by BPUT-appointed examiners.
- Answer scripts are evaluated by BPUT-approved evaluators.
Admit Card Rules
- Admit card / Hall ticket is issued by BPUT through the college examination cell.
- Students must carry a valid Admit Card to the examination hall — entry without it is strictly prohibited.
- Admit card will only be issued to students who meet the minimum 75% attendance requirement.
- Any discrepancy in the admit card must be reported to the examination cell immediately.
Project / Viva-Voce (4th Semester)
In the 4th Semester, students are required to submit a research project (dissertation) and appear for a Viva-Voce examination as prescribed by BPUT.
- Project topic must be approved by the faculty guide and college.
- Project report must be submitted as per BPUT format guidelines.
- Viva-Voce is conducted by an external examiner appointed by BPUT.
- Plagiarism check is mandatory before submission of project report.
Grading System (BPUT)
BPUT follows a 10-point Grading System for evaluation of students' performance. The final result is expressed in terms of SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average) and CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average).
| Grade | Grade Point | Marks Range | Performance | Visual |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| O | 10 | 90% – 100% | Outstanding | |
| E | 9 | 80% – 89% | Excellent | |
| A | 8 | 70% – 79% | Very Good | |
| B | 7 | 60% – 69% | Good | |
| C | 6 | 50% – 59% | Average | |
| D | 5 | 45% – 49% | Pass | |
| F | 0 | Below 40% | Fail |
Passing Criteria
A student must score a minimum of 40% marks (Grade D, 5 Grade Points) in the End-Semester Examination AND 40% in aggregate (Internal + External) to pass a subject. Failure in any subject results in a Back paper in the next available examination.
Back Paper & Improvement Examination
Back Paper Examination
- A student who fails in one or more subjects is required to appear in the Back Paper Examination conducted by BPUT.
- Back examinations are conducted along with the regular semester exams of the next batch.
- Students must apply for back paper examinations within the stipulated date by filling the prescribed BPUT form through GCM's examination cell.
- A student may appear in a maximum of 2 attempts per back paper subject as permitted by BPUT norms.
- The marks obtained in the back paper are considered for the final result.
Improvement Examination
- Students who have passed all subjects may appear for Improvement Examination to improve their grade/percentage.
- Improvement is allowed in a maximum number of subjects as per BPUT policy.
- The higher of the two marks (original and improvement) is considered for the final transcript.
- Internal assessment marks from the original examination are retained for improvement attempts.
Re-checking / Re-evaluation of Answer Scripts
- Students may apply for re-checking (verification of marks totalling) within 15 days of result declaration.
- Re-evaluation (fresh evaluation of answer script) may also be applied for within the stipulated period.
- Applications for re-checking/re-evaluation must be submitted through GCM's examination cell to BPUT with the prescribed fee.
- The decision of the re-evaluation committee shall be final and binding.
